About Maison Boo
Our Story
This is unconventional. Forget the usual “Mother of three sits round the kitchen table and creates products for her kids” company story. Instead think more along the lines of “Three men and a baby (or two!)”, as Maison Boo is the brainchild of twin brothers and their great university friend, all pooling their ideas and different expertise to solve a puzzle. It all started when twins Hamzah and Hassan met Wakas while studying a mix of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Business. After becoming good friends, they graduated, started work, married and gradually settled down into family life. Wakas and Hamzah both had baby daughters who suffered, as many babies do, with eczema. They noticed that when using conventional baby products, their daughters’ delicate and sensitive skin reacted badly and the eczema would worsen. So as scientists tend to do, they asked “Why?” After researching the ingredient listings on the baby products in their bathrooms (and subsequently in their local stores) they were horrified to find that most of them contained chemicals such as parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate.
Being chemists they were aware that these are commonly used ingredients within car wash detergents, industrial cleaners and PVC windows, and so the eczema and skin aggravation made sense. They were incredulous that such potentially harmful ingredients were so readily used in products for newborn skin, and vowed to find an alternative.
After lots of research they found that existing chemical-free organic products were either too expensive or that there was very little to choose from. They decided to pool their expertise and create an organic range that would be more accessible and affordable for every parent wanting to use nothing but good quality, caring and natural ingredients on their children’s delicate skin.
Maison Boo was born: a partnership between Hamzah, Wakas and Hassan. Hamzah had always been interested in good quality natural ingredients since he first visited his family farms and helped grow sugar cane, oranges, mangos and a range of vegetables using completely traditional, all organic methods. Maison Boo had strong principles and soon found the perfect organic experts on a farm in rural Staffordshire to help them make their creations into a reality.
The first range from the trio was Baby Boo Organics, launched in 2008. These fun, everyday and ethical bath & body products were suitable for children with eczema and contained the first ever Organic Strawberry Body Wash. 2010 saw Maison Boo build on this success with two more collections. First was the award-winning Baby Boo Organics “Pamper My Baby” range, a more indulgent collection for baby. Certified by the Soil Association and registered with The Vegan Society, the range was universally well-received and features a Massage Oil with organic Blueberry, Plum and Rosehip, Bottom Balm with organic Shea Butter, Borage and Calendula and a luxurious Full Body Lotion with Cocoa Butter, Vanilla and Neroli. The Body Bootique range followed soon after and is created exclusively for pregnant and new mothers. This was the company’s foray into products for adults and called for a more feminine flavour. Product Managers Julie and Sarah helped to mastermind the collection and worked tirelessly to find organic ingredients which were potent and solve a range of specific pregnancy body challenges.
The Body Bootique Organic Beauty collection now includes washes, balms and massage oils brimming with organic ingredients such as Pomegranate, Marula, Rosehip, Neroli and Bergamot. And so the story goes from strength to strength. With a host of exciting new organic products in the pipeline, Maison Boo is expanding its portfolio but keeping its principles.
Our Processes
The heart of Maison Boo is a beautiful farm in rural Staffordshire, England where everything is made to order in small batches using only the purest organic and natural ingredients. We select our plant oils and extracts for their quality and sustainability and source them from England (such as Borage) and overseas. Our mixologists have over 15 years experience in making plant-based products and our methods have been certified by the Organic Farmers & Growers Association and The Soil Association.
Our Ethics
We have never and will never test our products on animals. No animal derivatives are used in our formulations, with the exception of ethically sourced organic beeswax, and our products are suitable for vegetarians and are certified by The Vegan Society.
We are against the unnecessary use of artificial additives. Our complete range is free from Parabens, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES), Petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances and artificial colouring.
